Turn a 40-Page PDF Into Plain-Language Answers
Upload a dense 40-page government benefits form or medical paperwork to Google AI Studio's free chat interface and get page-referenced, plain-language answers without paying $20/month for premium AI or $1,000 for specialized OCR software. The constraint: the free tier caps you at 1,500 requests per day and 15 requests per minute.
Open the tool
Go to Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com) and sign in with a free Google account. No credit card is required to access the developer playground.
Create a chat
Click "Create Prompt" in the top navigation, then select "Chat prompt" from the dropdown menu. This opens a standard conversational interface.
Upload your document
In the center column, click the "+" (Add image/video/PDF) button located next to the text input box. Select your complex PDF. The 1-million-token limit means you can upload massive documents without chunking them.
Run the prompt
Paste the following text into the chat box and hit Run. The model will analyze the entire document in context.
Ask follow-ups
Use the chat box to ask specific questions like "What does page 14 mean by 'prior authorization'?" The model will read the specific page in context to answer you accurately.
What breaks
You will hit a wall if you ask more than 15 questions in a single minute, which will temporarily freeze your account for 60 seconds. More importantly, Google's free AI Studio terms permit human reviewers to look at your uploaded data to train their models. You must redact Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, and financial account digits before uploading. The interface is also built for developers, so you will see API settings on the left side that you can safely ignore.
